Read about how the company owner, Remy Baum, finds inspiration for her denim designs:
“We are always looking to our vintage Les Halles collection for inspiration, but the challenge is to re-interpret those designs and make them current. The worn and torn look of the 70′s and 80′s, as well as the fashion bodies and overall style of this era was definitely influential in our design. History always repeats itself and the same is true for fashion so we gain a lot of inspiration from our vintage shopping. Furthermore, we also look to the streets for guidance, a lot of conceptual research can be done while watching the fashions that roam the streets of New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Florence, London, Japan and St. Tropez.”
The Story behind Les Halles:
Remy’s parents, Marlene and Stephen Baum, launched Les Halles Jeans in 1979.
“Through their immense vision and talent, Les Halles rose to become one of the most influential denim brands in the United States (between 1979 and 1982), creating styles such as: the Baggie Jean, the Paperbag Jean, the Shooting Tuck, the Annie Hall, and the Zip Leg Marilyn, which landed the cover of Women’s Wear Daily on June 2, 1982.”
Bringing it back to TODAY:
Her parents chose to close up shop in the 1980s, but Remy discovered a pair of the original Les Halles Jeans while looking through her mom’s closet. Remy decided to relaunch the brand and has since received some incredible press!
